Thinking of buying an iPhone 14 / 14 Plus or an iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max? With disappointing sales of the former due to minor upgrades and the availability of the latter out of stock until 2023, you might want to rethink your plans. And this is the smartphone you should buy…
The iPhone 15 Ultra. And there are several reasons for this, both functional and financial. Let’s break them down considering everything we already know about Apple’s iPhone 15 plans.

Long term value
The cost will be the main argument for many against buying the iPhone 15 Ultra. On the face of it, that’s reasonable. The latest leaks claim that Apple’s new name for the “Pro Max” will cost up to $200 more than its predecessor, but there are mitigating factors.
First, storage. While the iPhone 14 Pro Max starts at 128GB, the entry-level iPhone 15 Ultra is expected to have 256GB. It’s currently a $100 option for Pro Max buyers, which means you’ll recoup right away half of that price increase, and remember it’s “up to” $200 more, so the final price may be lower.
Second, USB-C. If you primarily use MagSafe charging, you might not care about the much-publicized switch of the iPhone 15 line from Lightning to USB-C from a functional standpoint. But you should worry about it from a financial point of view. When iPhones switched from the old Dock Connector to Lightning, the used value of iPhones using the Dock Connector dropped. The same thing is likely to happen again, making an iPhone 15 a much better long-term investment.

New features
Every iPhone generation brings improvements, but after several incremental releases, the iPhone 15 Ultra is shaping up to be a seismic leap.
Manufacturing quality – Unlike all previous iPhones (and apparently no other iPhone 15 models), the iPhone 15 Ultra will have a titanium chassis. Titanium is 3-4 times stronger than the stainless steel used for the iPhone 14 Pro / Pro Max and delivers the same strength at 40% of its weight, meaning Apple’s new flagship could be significantly lighter but still stronger than its predecessors. It is also said to be curved for better ergonomics.

Photography – The front of the iPhone 15 Ultra will also break new ground with two front cameras. For photography, it will improve depth perception and offer different wide angles for enhanced selfies. For security, improved depth mapping will improve Face ID security.
Performance – The iPhone 15 Ultra will get Apple’s next-generation A17 chip, unlike the standard iPhone 15 models. This will be the first chip manufactured in 3 nanometers after the use of 5 nm variants for the A14, A15 and A16. This is state-of-the-art technology and compared to its predecessors, 3nm allows the A17 to run faster, cooler and with lower power consumption.
That’s not the only speed boost. For more than a decade, the Lightning port has limited iPhones to USB 2.0 speeds (480 Mbps), but the move to USB-C will see the iPhone 15 Ultra and iPhone 15 Pro support Thunderbolt 4 ( 40 Gbps / 40,000 Mbps), performing wired data transfers. and near-instant backups. USB-C should also bring faster wired charging speeds.

Why it’s wise to wait
So yes, the iPhone 15 Ultra will be expensive. But spread over the length of a typical 3-year carrier contract, the difference in monthly payments will be minimal (which is why iPhone 14 and 14 Plus sales are struggling). Additionally, Apple seems determined to launch the rebranded ‘UItra’ with a bang, making it the most innovative and upgradeable iPhone in years.
