Wolf Administration announces $5.8 million for homelessness relief and prevention – PA Department of Community & Economic Development

Harrisburg, Pennsylvania – Acting Secretary of the Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED), Neil Weaver, today announced that $5.8 million has been awarded to help homeless families find homes and fight the roaming throughout the Commonwealth. Funding is provided through the federal Emergency Solutions Grant (ESG) program.

“ESG funding provides local governments and not-for-profits across the Commonwealth with the tools they need to help unlock critical housing resources for their communities,” Sec said. Weaver. “The funding approved today will go to trusted community organizations to help individuals and families experiencing or facing homelessness.

A total of $5,872,054 in ESG funding has been approved for 16 municipal grantees and six nonprofit organizations that will administer regional projects spanning 26 counties.

ESG 2022 funding eligibility falls into six categories: Rapid Relocation, Homelessness Prevention, Street Outreach, Emergency Shelter, Homeless Management Information Systems (HMIS), and Administration.

ESG funding is authorized by the McKinney-Vento Homelessness Act as amended by the Homelessness Emergency Assistance and Early Transition to Housing (HEARTH) Act of 2009.

Priority for funding is given to applicants representing areas of the Commonwealth that are not already receiving a direct funding allocation from the Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD) Emergency Solutions Grant.
