Civil IoT Taiwan: The Air Quality Guardian Internet of Things

We have all experienced one disaster after another in recent years, due to the coronavirus pandemic and the impact caused by different types of extreme weather.

To help overcome the challenges posed by environmental changes and to improve the capacity and effectiveness of digital technology in environmental governance, the Taiwanese government launched “Civil IoT Taiwan” in 2017, with the aim of promoting cooperation between local governments and private organizations. It aims to help them work together to establish a strong environmental monitoring system and drive the development of the digital economy with information, to create a “Digital Country, Smart Island”.

With the government’s interdepartmental cooperation, the Department of Industrial Technology commissioned the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI) to develop environmental IoT sensing components. After passing the tests conducted by the national laboratory, the technology was transferred to private companies for mass production. The home air quality micro sensor has a long service life in high temperature and humid environment. It also adds compensation and correction for temperature and humidity parameters, which not only improves accuracy, but also meets local needs. Using the advantages of Taiwan’s electronic manufacturing with sensing equipment manufacturers, network equipment manufacturers, etc., provides domestic and foreign customers with solutions for monitoring air quality, indoors and outdoors. inside and outside.

Among them, Askey Computer, a subsidiary of ASUS Group, is deeply involved in the development of network communication and the manufacture of electronic products. Its core technology is applied to several fields, including 5G/LTE, Internet of Things, Internet of Vehicles and smart homes. In recent years, it has not only realized the plan of Civil IoT Taiwan, but also started to provide comprehensive service solutions to meet the needs of local government. In addition to providing communication equipment to overseas telecom operators, Askey also leverages its experience in civilian IoT to sell detection equipment and services to overseas telecom operators and home appliance operators, in the aim to improve the quality of life of families through air quality solutions.

This year, in home IoT, Askey Computer has cooperated with Verizon and home appliance maker Arcelik in the European market to create sales of up to 2 billion and provide comprehensive home services. smart in the local market. Using Taiwan-made communication equipment, such as IoT Gateway and WiFi Mesh, it has created a home network system and connects a variety of Taiwan sensing equipment. Users can procure all things to create a smart home and home security, including air quality, security protection, energy saving and elderly care, through apps and mobile platforms. Especially during the pandemic period, the indoor air quality sensor provides the principle for users to follow, and connects the air purifier and air conditioner to activate automatically through the smart device to purify the environment home when the air quality is poor. Sales figures for air quality remediation exceed 20 million this year, providing air quality protection and assurance to many families.

Thanks to Taiwan’s efforts and involvement in Taiwan’s civil IoT, Taiwanese companies can provide comprehensive solutions for indoor and outdoor air quality. It can improve air circulation through real-time monitoring of indoor air quality, reduce the risk of pandemics and infectious diseases caused by high indoor CO2 concentration or pollution problems air caused by pet hair, dust mites or cooking fumes. Through outdoor air quality monitoring, we can acquire outdoor air quality information to provide local air quality forecast and data visualization to the public, and spare no effort to help the public make judgments and decisions. At the same time, it helps to identify local pollution sources and further assists relevant units in technology law enforcement to improve local air quality and eliminate pollution hazards.

In the future, we hope to be able to integrate the advantages of Taiwanese products into Askey’s communication equipment and network services, as well as air quality microsensors made in Taiwan, to provide domestic buyers and foreigners more comprehensive air quality solutions. Thanks to the sensor’s detection capability, we can provide real-time and preventive monitoring services. With the wisdom and power of the island of Taiwan, we hope to contribute to the world and work together to protect the air quality around the world, to provide a better living environment for everyone.
