Half of households connected to the Internet at home for the first time thanks to an affordable offer
Customers report gains in education and job opportunities with Cox’s Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and Connect2Compete
ATLANTE and WASHINGTON, December 1, 2022 /PRNewswire/ — According to a recent Cox report, conducted by a third-party research firm, customers enrolled in the Affordable Connectivity Program (ACP) and/or using Cox’s Connect2Compete (C2C) service experience significant positive impacts on their careers, the education of their children and the continuing education of the adults in their household.

Cox’s longstanding commitment to bridging the digital divide began 20 years ago with Connect2Compete for families with children in K-12. Today, Cox proudly administers the federal government’s ACP program to provide financial assistance to customers and recently launched a new low-cost solution ideal for veterans, seniors, and Americans with disabilities called ConnectAssist. C2C and ConnectAssist customers are eligible for free Internet access when the ACP benefit is applied.
Main conclusions of the October 2022 report, which surveyed more than 2,000 customers, found:
- About half have Internet at home for the first time
- 70% home internet credit to find a new or better job
- Half said they got a promotion or a raise
- 90% said they now do their homework
- Half said they can now apply to college and apply for financial aid
- Half said they had obtained certification in a specific skill or trade
- A third said they were first-generation college graduates in their families thanks to home internet
- 90% of households say Cox’s internet access has had a positive impact on their children’s education
- Customers used words such as grateful, relieved and blessed to describe having the internet for the first time
“Internet access at home is a critically important service for obtaining a quality education and achieving professional goals,” said Marc Greatrex, president of Cox Communications. “This study shows how our customers’ lives are improved with an affordable home internet connection. Among the positive impacts that come from Cox Internet access, 93% of ACP and C2C customers say they are able to pay their bills on time more easily, and 95% of C2C customers say it helps their families spend more time. together.
An ACP customer said, “I love it. I’m so happy to have a discount, it helps me a lot because I’m a widow and I live on social security.
Additionally, nine out of 10 ACP and C2C customers say Cox Internet enables their children to access educational resources, complete homework and participate in remote learning, and better enables adults in the household communicate with the child’s teacher.
“I couldn’t afford internet service before this opportunity,” said a Cox customer using the C2C service. “My daughter couldn’t do her homework, and I couldn’t take her to the public library.”
The Cox Digital Equity Research 2022 report was based on a survey of Cox customers registered for ACP and/or C2C services.
